I just returned from a trip to the new Royal Plantation Island on Fowl Cay in the Exumas, Bahamas (fowlcay.com). Definitely enjoyed the private-island experience -- we were the only guests on the island, so we had very personal service from the genial butler, exuberantly talented chef and the on-site manager, who toured us around this quiet corner of the Exumas. Watch for my video soon, as well as coverage in ISLANDS annual Romantic Retreats issue, out later this year. In the meantime, I've uploaded some favorite photos below and in my new photo album.
The Birdcage villa at the tip of Royal Plantation Island.
The view from the hilltop restaurant and pool.
The Exumas scene from our villa's patio.
The island's south beach and more villas on the ridge.
Swimming pigs from the island next door.
A private picnic served by our butler.
Butler Wayland and Chef Anthony in a blur of motion.
Gourmet dinner of grouper and lamb from the island's chef.
When I was on Royal Plantation Island, villas were still available for Christmas week, though they may fill up fast. I'd definitely recommend checking into it if you're still looking to make holiday plans. The island is just a 30-minute transfer flight from Nassau to Staniel Cay, then a 10-minute boat ride. You can zoom in on the green "Stay" icon below to see the island in amazing detail. And of course, click "add new comment" below if you have any questions for me.
