Ok, I haven’t really started that many posts before, but hopefully I can stir up some ideas.
I must admit that I am doing this for selfish reasons. As my profile says, I am a bit of an obsessive traveler. I work so that I can obtain $$$ to see the world with. In my own mind, I am still young, with a young family… a wife and two young daughters.
Here is my dilemma… I am obsessed with the world. I love the people, places and cultures found throughout, but I have encountered roadblocks everywhere I turn when trying to obtain employment within the travel industry. It is not that I don’t have the training or love of it, just never have been able to find an “in.”
I graduated travel school on September 10th, 2001 and my luck and future, along with numerous others, changed the very next day. Afterwords, I joined the SOLO program through Morris Murdock but was never able to really get any momentum with it. Out of necessity sake, I took other employment that has treated me very well, but my heart is not in it. I long to not just see the world myself, but to show it to my family, and to let my two young daughters learn about life outside of our beautiful, but sheltered mountain valleys of Utah.
My question is simple… especially for those of you already in the travel industry… what am I missing? What do I need to do? How did you get your “foot in the door?”
Any info you could provide would be greatly appreciated. I feel that I have a wealth of knowledge about the people and places of the world and want to be of service.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
