Other than British and German tourists, travelers tend to overlook Menorca, which is my opinion is a big mistake. The incredible harbor at Mahon, the impeccable beaces, thousands of years of history, and smaller crowds than neighboring Mallorca make this island special. I spend two weeks there, traveling by moped to a different beach every day. Often times, it was just me and my girlfriend in a secluded cove, surrounded by pre-historic caves and the occassional anchored yacht. The trick is to get away from the big tourist beaches and find your own hidden stretch of sand. Great maps make this very easy to do.

I love menorca and especially Mahon, the natural deep water harbour is brilliant and walking up the hill into the town whilst looking down over the massive harbour is amazing :) I'm going to mainland spain for the first time in a week, have you ever been? thought i'd take a city break to barcelona for 2 weeks, hoping theres lots to see :)

I went to Menorca specifically on a friend's recommendation. It has an excellent concentration of beaches that are easily accessible. I too spent time finding coves, even though I was alone and wandering through secluded beaches for four whole days. The most laid-back time spent in communion with nature. I too recommend Menorca and its 50 beaches to anyone who goes on a Spain holiday (http://www.otbeach.com/cheap-holidays/spain/index.html).

It's so great to see this continuing discussion about the wonders of overlooked Menorca. At this very minute, I'm reading over a new feature article we have on a Tauck cruise to Mallorca and Menorca (http://cruise-travel.tauck.com/tours/europe-tours/mediterranean-tours/costa-brava-bne-2009), which will appear in our March 2009 issue (on sale Feb. 17). Two fascinating islands worthy of exploration. I'm preparing a new interactive map of the recommended sites that we'll launch on islands.com to complement the magazine article. Stay tuned!
Best,
Chris
